Nature's Integrated Rights Bill
Using Law to Drive Systemic Change

The Bill pioneers a bold framework, embedding human and economic rights within the rights of Nature. It's our roadmap to prospering within planetary boundaries, laying the legal foundations for a thriving, regenerative future.

Baroness Natalie Bennett
Member of the House of Lords, UK

"Our economies, our lives, are all entirely dependent on Nature. In simple terms there are no jobs on a dead planet, and - unless we look after the rights of Nature - there’s a very grave risk that that’s the direction we’re heading in."

THE PROBLEM

The UK is One of the Most Nature Depleted Countries on Earth

In the UK, 41% of species have declined, with 1 in 6 facing extinction. We've lost 97% of wildflower meadows, farmland birds have dropped by 56%, and sea levels have risen by 16 cm, endangering 1.5 million homes by 2080. Temperatures are up 1.2°C, heavy rainfall surged 17%, and air pollution kills 40,000 people yearly. Why? Because our laws legitimise it.

A Crisis Close to Home

The UK is facing interconnected crises—ecological, social, and economic. From rising floods to widening inequality, these challenges expose systemic failures. Despite climate commitments, progress remains slow, risking our shared future.

Environmental Law Falls Short

UK law protects people and the economy but leaves Nature without legal rights. Environmental laws, like those addressing emissions or habitat loss, focus on symptoms, not causes, leaving the root of the crisis unaddressed.

A New Framework for the UK

The Integrated Rights Framework embeds human and economic rights within the rights of Nature. By aligning the planetary boundaries and the UN SDGs with integrated rights, it ensures UK actions today secure a thriving future for all.

THE SOLUTION
The Integrated Rights Framework

Integrated Rights Framework.png

The Integrated Rights Framework is backed by a study we conducted for the European Economic and Social Committee, towards a Fundamental EU Charter for the Rights of Nature.

It sets out a law and policy blueprint for a thriving regenerative society, evolving our current sustainability framework to include integrated collaborative rights, planetary boundaries and the UN SDGs. This approach emphasises the interdependence of ecological health, human well-being, and economic stability.

Baroness Jenny Jones  I  Member of UK House of Lords

"It's an incredibly important Bill. When you're a politician and you're worried about the economy it's very easy to forget that it's Nature that sustains us - because no Nature means no people."
